I have talked with the Portland Police and the case # is correct and there is
an active investigation. The officer said that since Sgt. James Hudson's msg
was posted to rec.windsurfing they have had "literally dozens" of calls.

I called Micro / Forecast at 800-934-2278. Their msg machine says " for
questions of billing prior to 7-15 press 2 and leave a msg" which I did. The
officer had said that I might call M / F just to be able to say I did it, but
what's been reported to them is that nothing has been happening for those that
do. I of course can't personally vouch for that observation (yet).

Also, in talking to my credit card company last night, there's a significant
difference between reporting simple unauthorized charges (i.e. they might be a
mistake) and claiming fraud. The latter gets more attention more quickly, will
be investigated by their security unit, and the requirements regarding
notifying them in writing within 60 days of the fraudulent charges are
somewhat different. Given the pattern here, I'm claiming fraud. They send out
a special form that apparently takes a few weeks to get to you (huh? in this
day & age?), and they did not want me to prempt that with a letter of my own.
