I took my daughter to the airport midday wednesday, so my workday was
totally shot. I brought all my boards, expecting to continue on to the
coast after a visit to our fine local surfshop, ASD. But all indicators
implied deadness in and over the ocean, and there where whitecaps right
there at Coyote. Go with the flow...

i rigged the 6.2 Naish Alana and stuck it on my 8'6 Naish board, uphauled
and slogged on out about 3 pm. at drivein point the wind picked up to
harness line power, and at the flight path, it picked up again to feet in
the straps planning power! (140 lbs) I even hopped some chop!
most refreshing on this hot sweaty day...

Still it was not real exciting sailing, and I felt like too much work to
keep the surf style board upwind in the mild flood, so I slogged on back
to the beach, cracked a cold Spaten, and walked over to ASD to demo a Bic
Techno. The wind had backed off a bit by then, about 4pm.

Again, uphauled and slogged, but what a big stable platform! I even
tacked it. Wind lines the same, and even the planing points were about
the same, but the huge fin made the upwindage "a breeze". to jibe i just
bent my knees, put it on the rail, and she come around like a ballerina!
(a big heavy ballerina). came in around 5 and the wind was more solid,
maybe a dozen sails on the water inside.

I think the Techno is great for learning, from beginners stuff to advanced
freestyle moves, but out in the powered up zone, it felt like a heavy
truck to me. Of Course I'm spoiled by years of 15 lb epoxy boards. I'd
rent a Techno now and then, but I wouldn't want to own one, just not my
style.
