They've changed those "mast abeam" racing rules. Better get a new book. I
don't have one yet.

Agreed. The actual rule is that when on the same reach, the overtaking
sailor must
give way to the sailor being overtaken. ( actually, in a racing situation,
the
overtaken sailor loses ROW once the overtaking sailor establishs "mast
abeam"). If
the sailor being overtaken is taking an erratic coarse due to bottom and top
turns on
the swell, well, I believe most sailors would know to give plenty of room.

same tack. For sailors approaching from the opposite tack, normal ROW
rules (starboard/non-manuevering sailor has ROW) should apply.
