Nobody argues that the data is not valuable.

But a company that only listenes to it customers who spend $100 for a
dinner out at the drop of a hat will miss a large market for those that
don't have high cash flow or those that take great pleasure in using
coupon books to get 2-for-1 dinners and saving their money so they can
windsurf most every day and work at a much lower paying job.

I have a radio scanner that can get the current readings at SFO from my
house. We used to use it at Thud Ave to get an estimate for the channel
wind long before we had pagers. When I worked at HP in SJ I could take
this scanner to a clear spot in the building and get reception. Between
that scanner reading, a current fog map from NOA, the current wind at
SFO and a weather forcast free on the net (all free), I could get just
as many sailing days then as I do now. Back then Scott Norton at HP had
a great program on UNIX that had all the data on a map where you could
switch between pressure and temperature. I found I could make better
choices then than I do now as the iWS maps don't show pressure and temp.

We are pretty lucky in the Bay Area. If there is fog and it has started
to blow on the scanner, then I'll usually find good wind between Palo
Alto and the Stick. I like iWS because it shows the QUALITY of the wind
so I can make choices between what site to sail. This alone is PROBABLY
worth it to me to continue at the current price.

I paid for the service when it was cheap because I wanted to support
windurfing and this company. As the price goes up, I might decided to
support something else.
