In light of some of the past wind_talk threads about crappy water conditions
after storms, I thought this might interest some. Feel free to pass it on to
anyone that you think would be interested.

BAYKEEPER WANTS YOU! BE A VOLUNTEER INVESTIGATOR!

Stormwater runoff from industrial facilities, construction sites and
other impermeable surfaces on the urban landscape comprises the largest
source of pollutants entering the San Francisco Bay and is seriously
degrading Bay Area creeks. BayKeeper needs your help in enforcing
stormwater regulations which can protect our waterways.

WHAT: BayKeeper will host a training to enable volunteers to identify
and respond to pollution incidents around the Bay. The training will
cover:

* How to identify and document pollution incidents.
* How to work with BayKeeper to respond to serious incidents.
* How to identify stormwater violations from industrial facilities.
* How to identify stormwater violations from construction sites.

WHO: The training will be conducted by BayKeeper staff. We also expect
a presentation from San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board
staff on evaluating construction site stormwater discharges.

WHY: BayKeeper frequently receives hotline calls from concerned members
of the public alerting us to pollution incidents. We need your help to
investigate these leads, document violations and help us take action.
We will train you and call when a hotline call comes in near your home
or work. We ask only that you do your best to be available when the
call comes.

WHEN: Saturday, February 23, 9:30am to 12:30pm. (Please note that this
event has been rescheduled. It is no longer scheduled for February 16).

WHERE: Offices of the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary,
Presidio Building 991. See directions (below) and map (attached).

RSVP: Seating is limited. Please let us know promptly if you plan to
attend. RSVP to jennifer@sfbaykeeper.org.-DeleteThis.com

SNACKS: Of course.

DIRECTIONS:

ENTERING THE PRESIDIO FROM MARINA BLVD (from the East)

* Drive west on MARINA Blvd. staying in the right lane, to its end at
the BAKER St. stop signal, at the Palace of Fine Arts. Keep to the
RIGHT, going straight into the Presidio along MASON St. (If you
accidentally get onto the freeway approach/Doyle Drive, continue toward
the Golden Gate Bridge and take the last SF exit before the toll plaza;
then refer to the directions for "Entering the Presidio from Marin"
below).
* Go west on MASON passing a stop sign at about 0.3 miles. Continue for
almost another mile to an intersection which leads to CRISSY FIELD AVE
and is marked by a sign which reads '\234To West Bluff Picnic Area.'\235 From
here you can see the GFNMS offices which are off to your right
surrounded by palm trees. Bear right toward the West Bluff Picnic Area.

* Continue west for another 1000 feet or so to the end of the green belt
and turn right onto a small access road marked by a sign which reads
'\234Authorized Vehicles Only.'\235 You are authorized.
* Continue a few hundred feet and park. The GFNMS building is the
old-fashioned white building with a cupola on it.
