In the absence of other reports, I'll take a shot. I took no notes, so this will be relatively brief and probably a bit inaccurate.

Workshop on 9/24 at His Lords was packed. Maybe as many a 300 people? I didn't recognize as many of "us" as at prior meeting, but that may have been due to crowds. We were organized into discussion groups around four sections of the 8 mile park shoreline. Cindy Ross and I were in the group discussing section between Race Track and Isabel, focused mainly on Albany Bulb area.

My impression remains that windsurfing is both very "visible" in the planners' thoughts and that we get a lot of sympathy/support from them and the participants. The printed documents seem to actually emphasize windsurfing, often starting with that activity when listing options, and even approaching hyperbole, waxing rhapsodic about watching our beautiful sails off Berkeley shores at 7AM during the morning commute.

Dawn Patrol at Berkeley?? :)

Overall, main purpose of meeting appeared to be to define two development option "extremes", ranging from "mostly look and don't increase development" to quite a bit of recreational/use development. However, all from a thoughtful/ecologically sensitive land use approach, at least IMHO (i.e. no highrises, etc.). The "don't touch anything" voice did not appear to be as vociferous as I'd expected from prior events. The main, and quite sizable/vocal, interest group was the off-leash dog walkers. That is an impressive interest group. In discussions at our table, it sometimes appeared that dogs were more important even than kids! OTOH, when we raised issues about impact of the dogs on our launch conditions at Isabel (poop everywhere, etc.), they were sympathetic, decried non-pooperscooper behavior, and suggested that the launch area be improved (closer parking?) and made off-limits to dogs.

As far as the concept of another launch point at the South side of Albany Bulb, that appeared to be impractical due to lack of road access or potential therefore, and general consensus to keep the bulb/point undeveloped (except for access by artists). In other words, major long-shot and probably not worth fighting for.

I was a bit concerned that there was no mention in the general meeting of the Ashby/Emeryville Point small park and launch point, but maybe that was covered by the group dealing with that park section, or maybe that isn't part of the Eastshore park? Also, park coverage doesn't extend to His Lords launch either, so I guess that area is still in hands of Berkeley Waterfront "planning".

Ending of meeting was premature and a bit chaotic due to sudden complete blackout due to lightening storm. Interestingly, His Lords does not appear to have emergency lighting. However, no panic and even some continued planning via flashlight, but many of us called it a night at that point.

Due to the abrupt ending, I'm not sure of the next steps or schedule, but expect there will be some notice.
