TD,
I've sailed there off and on for past decade, always at Anaeho'omalu Bay (A-Bay), which is about 20 miles North of airport, where Hilton (Hyatt?) is (before Mona Lani Bay). Past three years I've spent two weeks in March-April there with extended family (go there on 4/6 this year). Concession is run by Dave Hume: dhumeandco@aol.com-DeleteThis.com

It is certainly not North Shore Maui quality, but I enjoy cruising in that bay with large gear and about 2/3rds the days are "planable". However, I do bring my 8.7 sail, which I have to use majority of the time. In two weeks there are usually 1-3 days of near-nuclear, just to keep us all honest. Dave has mostly beginner stuff, so I just use his large board and bring all my rigs and my small board. He also can direct you to other spots, which I haven't explored for many reasons, partly laziness and partly security of sailing in a very "observed" spot and partly because I'm not a wave sailer (yet). South Pt is one option, but far away. I don't go to Hawaii to drive around searching for wind. About 32 years ago I camped out at South Pt, fascinating experience at the time, but pre-windsurfing (for me at least!). There are about 20 local windsurfers, many of whom I know fairly well by now. It would be easy to generate some "expedition" enthusiasm I expect.

I love to discuss this, so feel free to ask for more details, or email Dave directly (but don't expect fast response).

                David
