Cool. Some webcams have built-in modems (for example,
http://www.homs-smarthome.com/7642.html), so they only need a power
supply and phone line to upload images to a web site. The park would
only need to install a phone line for us (to say the existing
concession stand) to get this running. Of course, a PC somewhere
would have to answer the modem and display the images on the web.

This company -- http://www.adcon.com -- has all the gear we need for
this. The trick is finding a place for the wind meters. The channel
markers are the best location ("what's it doing out there?") but we'd
have to convince the Coast Guard that it's a good idea. If they
signed off on it we could install wind sensors on the channel markers
outside coyote and 3rd ave (and a base station at the park to upload
the readings to the web) for about $10k.

If the CG doesn't sign off, another option would be to install our own
piling as far off the point as it's legal to do so and mount a sensor
there. Even if we could only put it 10 meters off the point, a sensor
mounted logo high there would provide more accurate info than a dozen
land based meters can.
