Thanks Pedro... so, if I understand correctly, you no longer have homeowners
insurance?

The story seems to change from day to day. I was succesful in getting a
board
covered under the regular homeowner's policy when I was with Commercial
Union. I have heard stories about people getting into fights with State Farm

over the definition of 'watercraft' which are excluded or limited under many

policies. I saved over $100/year by switching to State Farm and then turned
around and bought a boat owners policy for about $80/year to cover
$5,000-$6,000 worth of gear. My policy is based on dollar value and not on
number of boards. The advantages I get for the $80

- lower deductible (100 vs. 500)
- don't have to worry about a fight over whether boards are covered
- coverage is broader including possibly loss on the water

I send an updated gear list each year. Only the board, sails, sail booms
mast
bases, etc. are under the boatowners policy. Stuff like wetsuit and harness
should be covered as sporting goods under a renters or homeowners policy
(although you may run up against the deductible amount there).

I was asked yesterday about which agent I use. It is Darrell Butcher at
State
Farm- (415)479-8086
