============= Sun 28 May 00 - 3rd - 6.0/257 (195#) 3:45-6:10

Arrived at 3rd to hear all kinds of reports - strong in the channel,
dying now, coming back - and not very much near shore. So I rigged
a 6.0 (having done the Walk with my 5.4 last time); Michael rigged
his usual 4.9. The tide was also pretty low at +1.0. Jerome was
counting people who got launched hitting the sand bar - he was up to 5.

By the time we launched it had filled in to the shore better. We
managed to scrape by the bars (literally) without launching and found
good strong wind in the channel. In fact, we soon came back to the
nearer bar to downhaul some more.

After that, it was up and down, but we had enough sail to rarely
slog. Swell was smallish, but pretty for the start of the flood tide.

The wind continued to build and was quite strong by 5:30. I had flattened
my big sail just enough for it to remain well behaved, though others
were on 5.0s and 4.5s. Michael went in around 5:30; I concluded I was
beat around 6:00.

Lots of smiles in the parking lot!
