The Burlingame Planning Commission voted 6-0 to stop the 301 Airport
Boulevard project amid concerns over the size of the project. Many
participants expect that the developer will appeal the decision to the
Burlingame City Council. If the appeal occurs, we may all need to activate
again to show that we will not be worn down. Burlingame residents tell me
that the City Council is more likely to be responsive to the developer, but
the 6-0 vote gives us the moral high ground.

The 301 Airport Boulevard Project can only go forward if the City of
Burlingame makes a statement of overriding considerations with regard to the
significant traffic impacts the project will have. After hearing comments
from about 15 windsurfers and 20 area residents (about 100 opponents
attended), the Burlingame Planning Commission voted 6-0 to decline to make a
finding of overriding consideration. If the developer does not appeal, then
he will only be able to move forward by downsizing. Three of the six
Commissioners also said they would want to see the project phased with a new
analysis of the impacts after completion of each building/phase.

More detail on the comments by the Commissioners during daylight hours.

Peter
