I've heard praise for ASD's Fat Mutant. So, I've demo'd the board a couple
of times with a 6.0m & 6.5m sail. Unfortunately, the wind wasn't
cooperating so I have yet to get a good feel of it's performance.

I did notice a couple of things that bothered me:

1. On my older boards, I'm able to rest my boom on the tail end of the
board. (A nice feature when setting up for a water start, waiting for that
gust of wind). However, on the Mutant the only way I can achieve this is by
running the mast full forward (which I'm told you don't want to do on this
board) and lowering the boom to near stomach level. My thought is, that I'm
too tall for this board (6'3"). However, ASD tells me that most new boards
have a short tail end, that design allows you to sail more on the fin, which
is why you can sail a wider board in higher winds.

2. On my one and only "plane" that lasted for 30 seconds, I noticed I
couldn't rake the sail back as far as I usually do. I had to keep the sail
near upright the whole time, which is not comfortable sailing. (I think this
was due to the lousy wind conditions)

Anyway, some feedback (especially from you Mutant owners) would be greatly
appreciated. I will definitely be trying the board again in better
conditions. The main thing that's bothering me is not being able to rest
the boom on the board. I haven't bought a new board in 4 years, so maybe
this is the trend now.

I'd like to add that the folks at ASD are great; I will definitely be buying
from them. I just want to be sure I get the right board and that I'm not
missing something.

Thanks,

Bernie
