I'm mighty pleased with my 8'11 ASD Fat Mutant. I use it for 5.4 and
6.0 sails (at 195#), and I'm confident it will carry my 7.0 (if I ever
bother to sail it again). It's about middle of the pack on speed, but
it turns so easily, jibes so well and handles chop so nicely that I have
stopped taking out my small board when prudence indicates the big
board. I've had it out in the channel with my 5.4 way overpowered
and still felt in control - a new feeling for me on a big board.
If you weigh less, you may want the Mutant instead - 23" wide instead
of 24" and less volume. My criterion for a big board is what volume I
need to get back to shore sailing instead of swimming when the wind dies.
Kirk tells me ASD is also working on a MegaMutant - 26" wide - that
carries his 230# well.
