I started at around 5:30 just as the windline was moving in closer to the
beach. I saw earlier as I came over the GG that things were cranking up near
the north tower and by the old Coast Guard Station. I got solid 5.0 or better
for my 170# and it picked up to 4.0 in about 5 minutes time around 5:45. The
ramps and bumps were wild. With the strong ebb I went 1/2 way to the Gate in 5
minutes without making any effort to go upwind. I had to fight hard to bear
off and get back down by Anita Rock. Things settled back down to 5.0 after
about 15-20 minutes and it blew for about an hour more before a quick die. It
was the fastest build I've seen at Crissy and a lot of sailors got ebbed up to
the Coast Guard Station and could not come downwind.
