For anyone interested, here is some information sent to me from David on dry
sailing. I'm not really interested in buying one right now (thanks for the info
anyway!), but would like to do a story on anyone bringing one up and sailing at
burning man. If you're going and are hoping to sail - please email me at
karinaoc@earthlink.net.-DeleteThis
thanks, Karina

P.S. Also, below is some information that I gleaned from the wind_talk
form regarding dry sailing.

DRY SAILING WITH SKATEBOARD
Saw a few of them at the Event Site in Hood River the past two years.
Skateboarders said it was great fun and helped them withtheir jibes.
I bought a 4 ft. skateboard at Big 5 when it was on sale. Regular
price is about $80. The guys at the Gorge said to drill a hole
just in front of the front wheels for the mast foot. They said
you need only about 5MPH winds and a small sail. Advised me to
wear protection for the knnes, elbows and wrists.
I am using old sstuff I had laying around, so my only investment was
for the board. Haven't tried it yet because there has been wind at
Coyote-but expect to get it going next month.

David,
I have a street sailing board that I built from a snowboard and extra
wide skateboard trucks. It works pretty well, I usually use a 5.7
on it when there is no wind and a 4.2 or 3.7 when there is.
It goes pretty fast with very little wind so I wear rollerblading/hockey gear.
You can't really hang out from it too far because the wheels
will slip. Use an old boom because it will get torn up.
You are right, it jibes like a dream. It is pretty good for praticing.
