Ken's numbers for Palo Alto by my calculations are for getting back thru
the channel slot which is very difficult on a sinker. I find the
shallow depth OUTSIDE to be too scary for me as I don't like missing a
jibe and coming off into 2ft of water where there are sharp things on
the bottom or sometimes rocks...ok, maybe I should make more jibes! To
be really safe, I add an hr for comfort but often push the envelope
since I like sailing close to home and Palo Alto is so much closer to
San Jose than is Coyote/Third.

So, "bottom line" is tail dragging is expected about an hr before the
"safe times" on Ken's charts.

PS sailed there on 6.5/9'6" yesterday and had fun, but a 7.5 would have
been more fun..
