Previously I mentioned that I thought the tide reports on Ken's wind
reports were dead on. I need to correct myself for Palo Alto, which is
where I use them. The 'Safe_After' times don't seem to be fully correct.
I don't know whether that is due to taller mud flats, or the tide height
calculations are off.

About a week ago, I drug my fin through the big mud flats that are east
of the dock, during a presumably 'safe' time. Naturally, I wasn't going
fast, because these are all estimates. If I understand the goal of the
calculations, it would appear that +4 is no longer fully safe. I
estimate that the time is off by at least 40 minutes.

In addition, here's a report from another sailor there, last Sunday:

>I went sailing at Palo Alto on Sunday, the tide was unsafe at 5PM. We
>were there at 2:30 PM and had a great sail until 4PM. When I came in at
>4:15 the fin hit the mud at times, and as I was sailing, someone else got
>launched and lost his fin. I asked later whether he hit a sand bank, but
>he said he didn't feel anything when he got launched.... Someone else had
>to walk through the mud at 5PM.
>
>Anyway, it was a great day at Palo Alto, but you gotta watch the tides.
>Tuesday 8/19 should be a nice day at Palo Alto.

  Safe_After: . . . . 9:19 am +2.5 10:25 am +4.0
   High_Tide: . 12:11 PM +5.2 12:55 PM +6.9 1:07 PM +7.5
Unsafe_After: . . . . 5:29 PM +2.5 4:57 PM +4.0
    Low_Tide: . 5:05 PM +1.9 6:32 PM +2.1 7:26 PM +2.1
  Safe_After: . . . . 7:34 PM +2.5 9:25 PM +4.0
   High_Tide: . 11:24 PM +6.7 12:27 am +8.5 12:50 am +9.3
Unsafe_After: . . . . 4:23 am +2.5 4:22 am +4.0

So... Just an FYI. Worth knowing, since that inspires a more slavish
adherence to the channel for me. Ken, you might want to check the
software to be sure the computers have not dealt us a bad hand. (And
many thanks for the reports, I really appreciate them.)
