You are right, it is necessary to do a little research on insurance. If
the renter or homeowner doesn't cover adequately shop around till you
find something appropriate. My coverage is sound. Replacement cost means
that even though I bought a new 1994 board for $425 from mailorder, if
stolen I am reimbursed the retail price of $1300 plus sales tax (unless
the insurance company can purchase the item cheaper, then they offer the
item or their cost). You can't beat it. Years ago my carbon screamer
(purchased used for $700) was stolen. I told the company to call City
Front for pricing on replacements. The next day I hit the water on a new
screamer with some goodies purchased with the leftover change (insurance
pays retail, your shop probably gives you a discount). Happy ending.
