============ Wed 10 Apr 96 - 3rd - 5.2/257 (190#)

Got to 3rd at 3:15 to reports of "you shoulda been here". About
two dozen sailors were out, mostly slogging on 4.0's and 4.5's;
a 5.5 looked about right. Nevertheless, we Believed, so we rigged -
I did 5.2; Kirk 5.6. I was rewarded with the wind picking back up
right as I hit the water at 4:00. I planed from a hundred feet
off the launch and hit only a few slog-holes the rest of the
afternoon.

The chop was really harsh inside, so I went to the channel. It was
fairly flat, but had a fair number of good swells to 3' near the far
side. The wind really picked up - my 5.2 was waay powered most of the
time. Good launch ramps, good air, really rotten landings. I needed a
rest, so I came in around 5:10 and it was filled in to the ramp. I went
back out about 5:30 and it was backing off. I think I caught the last
plane in around 6:15 - many stayed out longer and I think had to slog it in.

Kirk's 5.6 seemed not to be enough for his new RKT, which seems to
need loads of power to stay on a plane. He was downwind in the
flood when he found a board drifting on the inside. He towed it in and
that put him way down below the old launch. But he found the owner
(he'd swum in with the rig), and the owner was *very* pleased.

I was gratified to find that I had not totally forgotten how to jibe.
A great day!
