My '90 E250 Extended van gets 14-16 MPG everywhere. Maybe 18 on long
trips with a tailwind. I think the smaller ones get maybe 20 so say
they cost 50% more per yr.

I spend maybe $100/Mo on van gas when I'm doing 5 days a week Los Altos
to SJ to Coyote to Los Altos...maybe 60 or 70 miles. Checks...
70miles x 5 days/wk x 4 wks/month / 14MPG * $1.2/gallon = $120 per month
only 50 miles on weekends....

so you get a small van and this drops to $50-$60/per month. I look at is
as for the price of a sail each yr in gas, I can carry loads of gear and
be comfortable. Then again, they are a bitch to park at 3rd so don't
try to leave early. Two tanks means I go along time between fillups
too.
