I just returned (10/2 - 10/9) from MAUI..and it was great: sailed
everyday..much to the chagrin of 'my' wife.....daily conditions were 5.2, 4.6,
4.3 (Naish sail..WOW), 4.9, 4.9, 4.3. Note that on two of the days Kanaha was
dead but Kihei was very strong (don't waste time waxing off at Kanaha when this
happens)
the swell was average; 2- 8 feet and not very consistent..we get better swell
here at the coast
....but she finally understood...since the wind blows in the afternoon you
should plan morning events for the 'family'..some of which were:
o driving along Kannapali and around the top of the island (its safe and paved)
o walking/shopping/siteseeing/lunch in Lahaina
o snorkeling at many beaches
o lounging at Alex Baldwin park outside of Paia (close to Kanaha AND a good
downwind launch...she can drive the car over)

Lastly, I rented my gear from Sailboards Maui on Dairy road..they are exteremly
accomodating (no charge for a 'reefed fin) with plenty of equipment and
no-charge for no-wind days at Kanaha (ie. Kihie was free!)
