I think that some people will delay too long if they know they have to
pay hundreds or even tens of dollars for a rescue. Many people will
think they can make it in or at least want to try. Given the 60 minutes
it took from our decision to call the Coast Guard until they arrived,
delaying until you're too tired to try any more could be fatal.

We're not always thinking clearly in a breakdown. Every time I've been
in one of these situations, I always think of things I or we might have
done better after the fact. Coloring the decision to call the Coast
Guard with a price tag will cause people to delay.
