It is possible for a north to be good south of the pier in Half Moon
Bay. The farther south you go, the bigger the waves are and the
cleaner the wind is. You can start with safety sailing closer to
the pier and then begin drifting down wind into bigger swell. Also,
waves wrap around Pillar Point and can have good shape.

There are many beaches to launch from Roosevelt, Venice, Surfer's
Beach, etc.

This set up is not always true but this can happen and may be worth
checking.

Ocean Beach might pick up the north wind pretty well, but it could
be kind of nasty with a large swell.

N is not good for Waddell & Davenport (blocked by cliffs, too
off-shore & gusty), is it? What is the best wave sailing spot for
n?

Yes, it's coming. .wed... n 25 to 35 kt. combined seas building
to 10 to 13 ft. .thu and fri...n winds 20 to 30 kt with gusts to 35
