One of the shops I rent from in Maui puts the mast base nut in the
mast track and then blocks the exit with some material glued into
the track.
Never forget the day I fell, went to waterstart, and realized there
was no actual board attached to the sail. The board had aligned
itself perfectly downwind and was merrily surfing away. Did catch
up with the board, but since then I overtighten. Mast base had slid
out of the track, as Bob P. said.
