Thanks for the tips. I became separated from my board and sail last week.
Fortunately, I was about 50 yards off-shore at Coyote. A swimmer retrieved my
board, brought it to the beach and I was able to swim the mast and sail to shore
also.
I'm going to fail-safe my mast bases as you suggested.

P.S. I'm 76, so even that short swim swim left me a little breathless.
