Subject: Wind_talk change: only subscribers can post

The amount of spam we get on this list is pretty darn small, but not
zero. We have some filters in place for spam, but so far I have resisted
using the only-subscribers-may-post restriction.

However, a recent spam got sent by a well-meaning Wind_talk subscriber to
Spamcop, which then pointed the finger at Agilent, which got some
corporate IT feathers ruffled. It took a lot of time to convince
them that we were not completely irresponsible freebooters.

It seems likely that spam in general and this kind of problem will
continue, and could jeopardize the mailing list. So we are implementing
the only-subscribers-may-post rule.

For those of you with multiple e-mail accounts, this could cause messages
to not get posted if sent from a non-subscribed account. If this is
a real issue for you, let me know all your e-mail addresses (as they show
up in mail headers) and I can enter them as aliases manually.

Please note that if you get spam from any mailing list, you should complain
to the list owner only, not the list and not a spam-hunting service.

A related note: Our outgoing mail now goes through spam detector
software (SpamAssassin). For those of you that read mail headers, you
may have noticed that wind_* mail now comes with headers like
"X-Spam-Status:". I think this will never call our list mail spam, but
in any event, it does not filter the mail, just adds some header info.
