When I "am sending my board on a long distance journey through the sky" the
board is usually attached to my feet via footstraps ;-)

I think you mean airplane tranportation......The best stuff for packing
boards are camping sleep pads - the cheepo ones found in places like
Wallmart or Play It Again Sports stores...it needs to be about 1/2" thick.
When I go to Maui, I wrap my boards in this material. I've had 100%
success rate: no dings on my boards. Key areas of focus are nose, tail and
rails. Give yourself about 1 hour per board to be packed - after you got
it figured out. The board bag typically needs to be bigger then what you
use day in day out.

I agree that buble wrap is pretty useless.

One last thing........Don't forget to open the vent plug ;-)

cardboard is much better for the plane
the bubble wrap is useless once the bubbles are broken
