My yearly off-topic survey of mobile phone service at various (mostly
sailing) locations. I'm on Verizon Wireless and I have a tri-mode phone
(StarTac 7868). Please provide information on ATT Wireless (analog and
digital), Cingular (digital only) or other carrier as follows (my answers in
parentheses):

1. Sherman Island - Powerlines (Rock solid digital coverage, good all along
80, 242 and 4, haven't tried the Sign or Access).
2. Coast - Santa Cruz to Davenport (spotty, some analog coverage, good
digital coverage at Davenport and on Davenport Landing Rd.);
3. Coast - Davenport to Waddell (Good until right after Scott's Creek,
spotty/non-existent analog between Scott's and Waddell, good analog signal
at Waddell, sometimes roaming service though).
4. Coast - Waddell to Half Moon Bay (spotty mostly analog coverage).
5. Skyline (Highway 35) between 84 and 92 (spotty mostly analog coverage,
good digital coverage at Skylonda and near 92).
6. Third Avenue - (Sometimes have dropped calls at Third proper, also when
driving southbound on Third Avenue from the launch).
7. Other places - (Mostly good except around Sand Hill Road on 280 for some
reason).

Info. on other locations not listed appreciated, like Jalama, Arroyo Laguna
or Marin/Sonoma coast.

Also, anyone have experience with either the Ericsson T60 or T61LX at the
preceding locations? Have you ever used it for iWindsurf's e-mail or WAP
alerts? Does it work well for those apps? Any other phones you like for
wind alerts?

Thanks in advance.

-Ed
