This meeting went better than I had expected. I had been warned that there
was a "no cars" contingent, but the only "no cars" people who spoke were
really against the spill-over free way traffic. Non windsurfers spoke up
about the need for parking, for everyone from fishermen, kayakers,
picnickers, and windsurfers (try carrying your fishing pole and your cooler
on the bus, he said). Someone put in his vote for a launch off the south
tip of the Albany bulb. (The bulb is a pretty small place, and I personally
don't see parking near the end of it working out. The road out there that
he mentioned is a wide flat path that a single car could get down most of
the way. The gravel beach he mentioned, I've never seen, and I've walked
around the bulb several times, even done an emergency landing there in the
vicinity of the proposed launch. I'll go again and check it out--see if I
can find his beach.) There were the usual people complaining about water
quality--wrong venue! The most interesting part for me was to see that
there are regular attendees for meetings like this. The chair person knew
by name many of the audience who got up to speak! In all, I think maybe six
windsurfers spoke. Some of us non-speakers made "we want launch spots"
comments for the comments box. My comment emphasized the relatively safe
aspect of the central bay east shore for windsurfing as the (prevailing)
wind and waves push you back to shore.

Any reports from the Eastshore Park meeting last night?
