so,
i recently moved to alameda from san ramon w/ the intent to shorten my
communte (work in the city) while being centraly located for two of my
favourite sailing sites (3rd & the delta) and a third quite reliable new
windspot (t.i.).little did i know that this sleeper site called alameda was
going to give me so much joy. just days after i moved in i got my first 2
sessions of the season.

...although i knew i was about to live next to a windsurfing site, i had
mostly dismissed it for a "beginner site" due to regularly less than average
wind charts (iwindsrf) and never having heard any major raves about a
sailing here. well, i have such raves to share.

after riding the xbay bus from a (non-sailing friendly) 8 to 5 day at the
office, i found myself planning away from crown beach by 6:25pm, both today
and monday. and while the website reads barely around 14 to 16 mph max for
these two days, i was nicely powered at 185+ pounds, on my 5.2 gaastra wave
and a 265 freeride "rubbermade" hi-fly w/ about 58 liters.

now, swell city it was not. but it took me 5 minutes to load (i could tell i
only needed one quiver... plus (oh this part i love :-)) 3.5 minutes to
drive down to the park (yeah!). i could not have sailed anywhere from my old
apt in san ramon with my current schedule without driving in to work all
loaded up (not the ideal commute either). for this alone i am stoked. and
yes, after burning so little gas to get to the beach, i had a very nice
first two sessions back to back.

as it turns out i can still jibe ;-) ... at least on the outside. what
surprised me, was that besides a few kiters, and two other sailors who
apparently spent their time mainly way out of sight on the inside, i sailed
just about by myself. so it is a good thing i stayed on by the beach as i
don't want to risk my health riding second hand gear from last year out and
about on a 3-2 wetsuit +underliner in this freezing chill. which brings me
back to my last point.
i was cold as mierda by the time i got to picking up!.... can't wait for
summer.

i only hope alameda keeps blowing, at least during the weekdays ;-)

see you out there!
