A friend of mine and I were in Bodega yesterday.

Got there around 9:30 or so, found 5 or 6 guys out, on sails anywhere from
3.7 to 4.5. I rigged a 4.0, sailed nicely powered for a couple runs until
it dropped a bit. Starting at around 10:30 it started coming up again, big
time, and by 11 or so it wasn't even sailable.

I thought that I've seen my share of windy days around here, but I've seen
nothing like that before. The spray from the waves breaking over the jetty
was carried by the wind for hundreds of yards never touching the surface
again, the cars in the parking lot were rocking, and the _wet_ sand was
blown all over the road. The swells had built up outside the jetty and
looked really nice, but it was way too windy to even try.

Around 1:15 the wind dropped off significantly and we had an hour and a half
of nicely overpowered 4.0 sailing :-)

The pager wasn't doing the wind the justice it deserves, it was only showing
37 mph at the peak, when it was much more than that. The Bodega buoy showed
47 or 48 knots average, which was much closer to the reality.

Up in Sacto land we had our second day of 3.2-3.7 nuke !, it lasted all day
long. We made the
Channel 3 news and got about 3-4 minutes of airtime! About a month ago, we
had similiar conditions the best I ever remember in 16 years sailing the
lake. It was averaging 29-36
mph, the gusts which probably were 45 plus, were creating white smoke storms
on the water.
When these hit, the board area was enough to catch air with.

Usually we only get a few hours of this before the heavy rains hit, but this
year is different.
The 3.7 Nalu is getting a workout, it has enough pocket to see me through
the 20 mph+ lulls, on my sinker, but is stable in the 35 plus range.

Get ready the season is starting! Thanks for the coastal posting Mr. Mayor.
Retired the 90 ford after 178K, Got a new windsurfing truck, white top on
white GMC 4*4 2001.
