Maui totally rocks.

I just got back from 3 weeks in Maui. Perfect weather all 3 weeks,
although much more so for surfing than sailing. I sailed 4 days of
mast high Kanaha the first week, 3 days on a 5.8, and one a 4.5. I
got in one day of course sailing in light Kona winds in Khei, and
one day with a 5.8 in Kona winds at Kanaha. The Kona winds at
Kanaha were totally weird and sketchy.

The last two weeks were very calm and sunny. The swell was awesome
for the entire 3 weeks. I surfed almost every day. Hookipa rocks
as a surf spot when its not windy. I actually liked Maui better in
the winter than the summer, because big waves are so much fun,
surfing or windsurfing.

I'm looking for land development ideas...

This last summer, I bought a 2 acre parcel of land in Sprecks. The
north edge of the land borders on the south edge of Sugar Cove
Condos. The middle of the north edge is the beach access to Sugar
Cove, that runs along the east edge of Sugar Cove. So, one could
leave gear rigged on the property and carry it maybe 125 feet to the
launch. The airplane noise is moderate, especially compared to
staying on Stable Road.

ATA airlines offers unlimited round trips from SFO to Maui for under
$2K.

I'm thinking that I would like to spend at least 2 weeks every 2
months in Maui. I could easily do work on the plane and in Maui if
I have a PC and high speed Internet access.

I think working in the Bay Area and frequently visiting Maui is the
way to go, as career opps on Maui are limited.

I'm curious if there are others like me that would like to do remote
work in Maui. Maybe I could set up a high tech time-share. Maybe
some companies might even support the costs of a remote office?

Here are some ideas for the home: * A bunch of bedrooms with
private bathrooms. * High speed LAN with DSL connection. * Office
ammenities like good desks, chairs, phones, etc. * Maybe extra
bedrooms that could serve as offices (unless people like to work out
of bedrooms). * Lots of storage area to avoid lugging gear and
other belongings back and forth * Large, open design kitchen, with
extra refrigerators, maybe in garage. * Nice, large common area
with open beam ceilings * Bi-weekly maid service * Separate 1000 sq.
ft. Ohana for normal vacation rental

Here are some concerns I have with the idea: 1. Is there demand
for this? At what price? 2. What about security concerns? Maybe
with 4 house residents each spending 1/4 of a year, that would be
about 16 people to know and trust. With carefully screened
long-term residents, maybe this could work.

Any other ideas?

My goal is to generate extra income to pay for the property, and
maybe even have some cool people to share the house with.

Aloha,
