Folsom lake can get pretty good on storm fronts during the winter. North winds
in the spring
and fall can also be fun. However, in the summer, you're just target for the
boats and
the jetski-ers.
Another good spot for north wind days is the north side of Lake Camp Far West
in Wheatland.
For beginners, Rancho Seco can be OK in the summer. No power boats on that
little lake. Lake Natoma is also good for beginners. CSUS Aquatic center
teaches beginner windsurfing classes there.
