Dear Wind Talkers:

I get the day's messages rolled into one "digest." It helps keep my
inbox uncluttered, and allows me to get one smooth dose of sailing and
political news every day. That's nice.

But for the digest (and just about all email lists, usenet groups
and the like), it's helpful to all if you quote sparingly, as needed
to keep the context. If you simply allow your mailer to quote the full
message you reply to, and then the next person quotes your message...
after 4 or 7 episodes, it's hard to find the punch line.

Duplicating your messages in plain text and HTML also comes into the
digest rather unlovely, especially if your mailer's programmer thought
was a good way to make
a tab character.

One person's "useless email program" is another person's preferred tool.

Finally, if images can be reliably pointed to on the web, giving a URL
is exactly the way to go; copying images into a thousand lines of
p6NaqGgFwf4g4BH4elZJjvbBzJYXDGMHHkTkkD2Vu3Sr1vrcakWzn7NclQCko6/j0NX4LZ54
and emailing a hundred (?) copies is a rather big hammer for a
delicate job.

Thanks for your consideration,
