How are Candlestick and Oyster Point going to be affected by the new
runways? Seems to me any kind of studies they do will not show any serious
impact on these sites.
I think we need to position these sites as the crappy sites that they are.
My worst fear is that mitigation goes to provide more parking at these
sites.
What about the new parksite between Coyote and Third? Does that factor in
at all? Maybe this could be proposed as a mitigation site.

Help!
I need to prepare an informational write up on each windsurfing site between
the San Mateo Bridge and the Bay Bridge. The info will be used to show the
airport how much of our capacity is threatened and to let them know what
kinds of mitigation would or would not work. For instance, displacing
beginners to a site with offshore wind does not work. I have ideas about the
answers to most of these questions, but I want to see what the community
take
is and not risk pulling some bad info out of my backside. The key questions
Capacity - How many on a busy day
Capacity - How many maximum (with parking within a reasonable distance)
Level - What level of sailor does it appeal to/is it safe for
Sailing Quality - Is it more/less consistent, better/worse wind or current
vs. other sites
Tide/Water Level - Is it sailable on all tides or is it difficult at lower
tides (what level)
Development Threat Impacts - Is it subject to development threats (e.g.
Candlestick mall, Flying Tigers) or has it been impacted by development and
to what degree (Third Ave.)
Possible Improvement - Can the site be improved with new parking, launches,
etc.
Sites to consider:
Candlestick
Oyster Point
Flying Tigers
Embassy Suites
Coyote Point
Third Avenue
Respond to wind_talk if you want us to debate your take. Otherwise send me
the info direct.
