When I switched to a waist harness, I found that the fanny pack wouldn't work
well. I switched to a small back pack (little black backpack, how hip!) from
REI. It still fills with water but I'm going to put a couple of grommets in
the bottom and then cut out the material in the center. I carry the VHF radio
in a water tight bag which has a line so that you could hang it around yuor
neck. I use the line to tie the radio off on a D ring inside the backpack so
the radio would not be lost even if the zipper blew out. The radio bag will
get you more life, even out of a submersible rated radio and will screen the
mike from wind noise (which can be a serious problen in 20-30 mph gusts) when
you need to use the radio.
