i was at my desk taking care of business, focused on getting caught up
with my invoicing and scheduling since the Camp Surfdawg trip and a weekend
of wild partying. after printing half a dozen so (only 100 left!) i took an
email break and found this:

dude - looks like the coast will be firing today. You wanna go sail Tuba?

Plan to leave by 12 on the water by 1:30.

Waves/wind are calling.................work will wait.

damn! the juices started flowing. tease me tempt me, YES I WANT TO GO!

i checked the remote sensors and found good coastal wind, a 20 second south
swell, and a rising tide. also i haven't done tuba practice in about a year.
i'm hooked.
i'm in.
i'm on the road at 1, and my current residence is only 45 minutes from my
favorite beach.

the whitecaps on Lago Nicasio indicate 4.7 for me. I stop and call the
zeevmobile...he's got the hot wife and the kool kid with him, but the ETA
is getting bumped along. I hit the devine Bovine Bakery for my carbo load
and proceed over inverness ridge, through the burn, into the wilderness.

4.7 or 4.2? pager says gusts over 30. eyes, skin, gut says naaah. I choose
4.7 with the little board/wave fin. i rig slowly, casually, deliberately,
looking up the road for some surfmobiles that don't materialize. at 2:30 i
leave a note and march for the beach.

a lovely but uneventful 40 minutes later finds me at the break doing
downhaul - the wind jacked up good as i approached the waves. I watched a
big beautiful set of 12 south swell waves spit and spiral and spray where i
play. - head high or more...and faaaast! making the nalu floppy leeched
to the boom really puts me in control, and i go exploring way upwind and
inside the estero. tide is still real low and i plow sand here and there,
my wave riding a bit inhibited by navigational concerns. the water is choppy
and the wind is gusty/holey, but it's still clear and cold and it feeds my
soul. i jump for joy, and blast back to steam engines as the tide rises.

and soon zeev appears. then his buddy eric sails in, and a lovely lady
with child in backpack ambles up the strand, and the water gets deeper and
smoother, it's a party! we jump, we surf, we crash, we bash, we blast, we
slog, we confer on the sand, and the concensus is: Tuba rules.

then the 2 mile power reach, as broad as you can handle, and we join 2
other sailors, also zeev inspired, back at the launch zone. the beach has
changed shape so much that i have a hard time finding the trail!

after a rinse in the duck pond and few beers during the derig/debriefing on
the grass, we retire to the Station House in Point Reyes for yet more
brew/seafood/windtalk. it was a very good day.

thank you mr. gur,
