I've bought two Fiberspar booms in the past and have been really happy with
them (one 5 year old, one 1 year old). They've been break-free and
reliable, in addition to being so light and stiff. I haven't used them in
the surf, but haven't been overly gentle with them either (@190lb).
Plunking down the cash is a tough pill to swallow, but you'll be glad once
you have it. I agree with the earlier post that they provide the most
performance benefit in the larger sail range, but it sure is nice having one
for regular sailing too :-}
