============= Tue 27 Apr 99 - 3rd - 4.4,3.9/257 (196#)

Went to 3rd early to catch the ebb and avoid the low tide at 5:30.
Wow! SFO reported about 26g35 knots all afternoon.

Michael and I went out on 3.9 and 4.4 at 2:00. It was light inside, but we
were very well powered in the channel, with very long and wide swells up
to 6' high.

About 3:00 we were feeling overpowered and tired, so we went in for a
rest and rigged down to 3.9 and 3.5. When we went back out, we got
spanked! The swells were now 6 to 8 feet but the wind was now
too much for the smaller sails (29g35 kt at 3:00). I would have still
had plenty on the 3.5! We eventually went to the inside just to stay
in control, but kept getting drawn out every few runs to try out those
big swells. Came in about 4:00.

Lots of smiles all around.

 "I ought to say," explained Pooh, "that it isn't an ordinary sort of
boat. It all depends."
 "Depends on what?"
 "On whether I'm on top of it, or whether I'm underneath."
