Wow...I have the same questions..I used to windsurf in Malibu but there
was never enough wind for my short board...only during deadly winter
storms. So I drove up to Ventura..there is a couple of state parks you
can stay at for a sailing weekend. However the wind never picked enough
for my short-board..despite all the sailing videos that were supposed to
be filmed there. My next step was to drive to San Luis Obispo...then
finally to move back home to the Bay area....for real wind. I hear San
diego has wind..but I am skeptical as it never seemed to blow when I was
there in the summertime...good luck driving anywhere coastal on a
weekend..My advice get a wind pager focused on Malibu/oxnard and pray.

PS. Sorry to say that the water in Santa Monica is some of the most
polluted/toxic in the world.

Any other ideas or better experiences out there...I hate for this to be
all bad news.
