Summary :
- Aug '97, 11 boards, 20 sails, ... etc. stolen from Stanford
Windsurfing Club (Palo Alto, CA)
- Aug '98, 2 boards, 4 sails recovered from ShorelinePark (MtnView, CA)
This good news tells us that the gear is still local and is trickling
into the used windsurfing market. Please keep an eye out for any
of the gear described in the attached list or the stolen
equipment section of http://www.windcall.com
- Thief Description
The current theory is that the gear was sold through an
classified ad in the San Jose Mercury News around March-April
1998. The seller is described as :
white male, ~6ft tall, in mid 20's
clean shaven with dirty blonde hair ("surfer type"??)
drives a dark colored 1980's Jeep Cherokee with CA or plates.
- If you have ANY information, have seen any of the gear, have
purchased any of the gear (we can work something out) please
contact :
Glen - (Pager 650-372-7700, Voice Mail 650-723-5908)
Stanford Police Department - Detective Al James (650-725-2138)
or your local police department
In the interest of the whole Bay Area windsurfing community we would
like to stop the black-market sale (or sail) of stolen windsurfing gear.
Any any help you can provide in tracking down the criminals is greatly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Stanford Windsurfing Club
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
As you might recall, last year (8/21/97) our windsurfing club had all
of its equipment stolen on from Palo Alto, CA. It has taken our club
over 5 years to earn the money and accumulate this gear. Thieves
broke into our storage container (cutting the 'hasp') and took 11
boards and 19 sails. Police reports were filed.
>From the recovered gear we have learned that the thief has made an
attempt to remove distinguishing marks from the gear, but several of
the items are unique. For those of you with limited time the obvious
items are :
- Windwing Convertible Sails (1992) with 10" high black sail numbers
SU01, SU02, SU04, SU08, SU09, SU14, SU17.
Colors : flourescent yellow with green with pink trim.
Note : the sail numbers might have been
removed, so look for adhesive residue in the above shapes.
- CFX 8'4" board with very obvious grid pattern of holes (2"
spacing) on the bottom due to the traditional CFX
delamination repair. The board is white with blue letters.
- BIC Rumba with strange pink graphics and
obvious white marinetex repair on the nose due to boom strikes.
