Sunday. Crissy was the call. 3pm launch from the main beach.
8'8" Enduro, 5.3 Nalu, 13" blade, 140#.
High fog from midspan to St Francis, clear to the north.
I always head for the bridge, can't help it. Didn't go all the way 'cuz
of lighter wind up there. I played around my favorite zone south of Pt.
Cavalo, chasing wakes, finding the many different water surfaces, jumping
for joy.
After about an hour I went back for my waist harness. I'm now convinced I
like it better. To my surprise, I had to slog in, and most other sailors
were packing it up. This about 4:45. I was not ready to quit. I watched
a bit, saw some guys still planing outside, and went for Round 2.
Shortly past Anita I was planing again, and pointed it deep, downwind
where I never go. After a few long but uneventful reaches I climbed back
up the ebb and the SW wind and noticed a sail under the bridge, and one
near the South Tower. Gotta Go! On my way I hit one excellent ferry wake
jump not 20' behind the Golden Bear, just as it came out of big chop into
smooth water. Under the bridge were Huge rolling swells with no chop, and
outside the South Tower the standing waves were working with the Hero Jibe
Zone in effect by the Fort. Coasties were out watching in their red
rubber boat. Sun was getting low, water was looking smooth downwind -
time to head for home! In at 6:15.
