Martin -

        If it is one of the masts to go with the Waddell Race sails it
is a carbon mast. Fiberspar used to put a sealant over the carbon.
Flaking will not affect the performance at all. Just use the mast
as-is. If a flakes, probably dried salt, are bothering you then lightly
sand.

        I picked up a very used Fiberspar fiberglass/epoxy mast.
        Unfortunately, tiny bits of fiberglass are flaking off the mast
in a
        major way, and getting all over the place, including under my
skin.
        Is this just one of the joys of the sport, or is there something
I can
        do to seal the mast? E.g. spray sealant, clearkote, you name
it. I'd
        rather avoid duct tape which was my first thought.
