RE: Latest SBSA results of coliform study
SBSA Coliform Study update through 6/26/97
Summary & Interpretation
During June the SBSA effluent bacterial levels were in a perfect range for
our study (80 - 500). Other than a barely detectable blip at the outfall
station (3), all Bay stations were at minimum detectable levels (2). SBSA
believes that this presents a strong case for minimal impact on the Bay when
SBSA discharges in this range and includes a very significant margin of
safety in relation to the water quality objectives (below).
Beginning July 1, SBSA began a modified study during which we will operate
the disinfection process a bit more conservatively, targeting not to exceed
500 in the plant effluent.
Details
All units are MPN/100mL (ie. most probable number of fecal coliform bacteria
per 100 milliliters of sample) expressed as a 5-day log mean. The water
quality objective is 200 MPN/100 mL (5-day log mean) for water contact
activities and 500 MPN/100mL (5-day log mean) for non-water contact
activities.
