Dave Bingham (sp?) returned safely to shore in Redwood City this morning at
1am. He was warm and doing fine, just tired and hungry. He walked into the
office of a cement company and the employees gave him coffee and something to
eat and notified the coast guard that he was there.

Dave's sail got shreded in the channel yesterday at 3rd at about 7pm and was
unable to sail himself in. Warren stopped to help him, but there was little
that could be done with his rig. Warren attempted to chase down a couple of
near by sail boats that were returning to Coyote Pt Marina, but could not get
their attention. He was then unable to find Dave again so he sailed in to get
a sail to take back out and try to find him. Warren and two other sailors went
out with strobes and a 5.0 sail but couldn't find him. They returned by dark.
Ken Zemach called the Coast Guard by 8pm and reported Dave missing. Jay Runge,
Robin, Steve Rad, Harry Walther, myself and a couple of other people (I didn't
get there names) helped out on shore as much as possible.

Dave was wearing a full steamer wetsuit, hood, helmet, booties and gloves, so
was quite prepared for his time on the water. He also was carrying flares and
a strobe. But unfortunately, the flares failed and the battery was dead in his
strobe. He had to ditch his mast and (4 day old) boom.

Sorry if I failed to mention anyone who helped out last night, and feel free
to add to or correct me on the details.

~Jim
