============= Sat 26 Apr 97 - 3rd - 5.4/257 (186#)
Due to other plans on Sunday, we were hoping, but not really expecting,
to sail Saturday. 2:00 report was pretty grim, but the wind ramped up
amazingly quickly between 2:00 and 3:00. By 4:00 we were on the water
using the Standard Rig (5.4/257 for me and 4.8/8'6 for Michael (150#)).
It was wonderful! We were well powered. Swell was not big, but had pretty
good faces for jumping. We were not doing huge jumps, but I was landing
mine for a change. Swell was only occasional 3' in the channel, more
consistently 2' inside. Around 5:00 the wind started to back off a bit.
Luckily, we figured this out and came in from the far side of the
channel before it got bad. Sailed by the marker for a bit and then
caught the last puff around 5:40, which carried us all the way in on a
plane.
It was especially sweet because we had just about written off the weekend.
On top of that, I finally remembered how to jibe and made 100%.
Ran into Scott and KenB and Dan and Terry while rigging - first time
I've run into Scott and KenB windsurfing in over a year. Still did not
see them on the water.
