Tony,
I've broken my fin two times; once in the middle of the big downwind bay at
San Carlos and once way upwind of Sherman Island. Both times were a long way
back and took a lot of effort and perseverance.
I tied my harness around the tail of the board and secured it with some line.
I've often thought it would be a good idea, though, to have a small fin and a
strap arrangement to carry you through troubled waters.
The other day a guy broke a fin a mile out at Coyote when he hit a fish or
something unknown.
