I find that frequent very short rests help out my wrists. I use
a little X11 program that pops up a "Take a Break" reminder on
my screen and keeps it there very persistantly until I do.

I have seen recommendations for a 1-minute break from typing every
20 minutes, but I find that 10 seconds every 2 minutes works much
better for me. And I also find that constant mousing is much harder on
my (right) wrist than typing.
