FYI.. Chinook makes a boom head for skinny masts. It came as an option
with my Carbon Designs boom... no need to mess around with a shim...
you might be able to special order it from them...

Subject: Boom Slips On Mast-Suggestion?
i'm using a windsurf hawaii boom and rdm (i.e. skinny) mast. the boom
has a powa head and i use a fiberspar shim. the shim is non-flexible, so
must be slipped over the mast. since i have a 2-piece mast this isnt a
problem. otherwise the mast with shim wouldn't fit in the sail sleeve
(black diamond air). however, my boom does not slip. one caveat is that
i weigh only 108 lbs.
