Subject: 3rd Sunday

============= Sun 17 Apr 95

NWS predicted 30 knots, so the lot at 3rd was 1/3 full by 1:30. The
wind, however, was late. We hung around and yakked (Kirk, KenF, Michael
and I) hoping for the Big Blow. About 3:00 we faced reality and rigged
big - 6.2/9'1 for me and 5.4/8'10 for Michael, (0.0/wind_snob for Kirk
:-)). We hit the water about 3:30 and were nicely powered almost all of
the time, but we were certainly using the gust-handling and
plane-through-the-holes abilities of our race sails. Swell in the
channel was only occasionally 3 feet. By 4:15 I needed a break (oh my
poor out-of-shape arms).

Michael asked "hey, you want to go to Coyote?". I told him no way
could I point up that far, but we tried anyway. I guess it helps to
have someone to chase, because we got up there in about 45 minutes.
The wind built as we went, getting to maybe 5.2 or so, but still
running in channels. At about 5:30 we were up to the Coyote main
sailing track. We then zigzagged our way back down the channel, which
was now showing 3-foot sets fairly often. The wind held until we
got back to the 3rd Ave channel marker about 6:00, and then seemed to
back off suddenly. Michael planed in; I slogged in. I think I'll slash
his tires. Aside from that, it was a great day.

I think SoSF_SBrMt was a better indicator of the wind we got at 3rd than the
SFO numbers.
